This is a true authentic 90s patch in amazing condition.#patch#sewing#history#worldwar#astronautThe Ancient and Honorable Order of Turtles (also known as the "International Association of Turtles", "Turtle Club", etc. ) started as an informal "drinking club" between American pilots during World War II, for humor and camaraderie. Any member who was asked "Are you a Turtle?" needed to reply, loudly, "You bet your sweet ass I am", or buy the questioner a drink. Wally Schirra of NASA's original seven astronauts introduced the Interstellar Association of Turtles during the Mercury space program in the early 1960s. Schirra was the High Potentate of the astronaut club and during his Sigma 7 flight, was asked the ever-important question by a ground controller just minutes into the mission. He recorded his answer off-radio for later playback. A similar situation came up between chief astronaut Deke Slayton and Schirra during the flight of Apollo 7.
