"The F4D Skyray is a high-speed, high-altitude aircraft with a tailless delta configuration and rounded wing tips. It is the first carrier aircraft to hold world speed and climb records. The F4D-1 has a maximum speed of 722 miles per hour.
The US Navy proposed a short-range carrier based interceptor fighter in 1947, inspired by German work on delta wing plan forms. The F4D Skyray is nicknamed the “Ford"."
